Have you thought about moving to a location within Richmond? Jobs and real estate will be your first concerns, but a lot of people like to know the kind of social atmosphere they can expect in a city as well. Are there places to take faux painting classes? What kind of community involvement is there? Let's take a look at what Richmond has to offer as far as activities.
The Arts
Although a focus on the arts is thought to be a trade mark Canadian characteristic, there are many cities in the United States that place significant emphasis on fine arts development. Richmond is definitely one of these.
At the center of the thriving arts scene in the city is the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts. This campus has been lauded as one of the finest in the nation. The artists attending there and those who have graduated display their work in galleries all over the city. Such is the caliber of work coming out of Richmond that you may have used a native's work to decorate with words on the walls of your home, and not even realize it!
History
The American Civil War and its traditions are still very much alive in the city of Richmond, which served as the capital city of the Confederacy. It's a great place to visit for any history buff, and residents will find that there is no shortage of Civil War tours to take. People such as Dennis Gartman enjoy touring some of the battlefields near the city limits, as well as the Museum of the Confederacy.
Shopping
Richmond is a fair sized city, with over 200,000 residents. It's also one of the central cities in the American south, and that means you can have a shopping heyday anytime you want. You might be looking for that perfect ladies' sweater or just want to go out and spend a weekend looking at some of the high end stores in downtown. Whatever your mood, our city has the shopping experience for you!
Outdoors
Nestled in the mild south, Virginia is a great place for outdoor recreation all year long. Summer and fall are, of course, the preferred times for city residents to enjoy the many beautiful parks and recreation areas the city has to offer. Two of the most popular parks are Belle Isle and Brown's Island.
